Yankee Candle
In December of 1969, Mike Kittredge (founder of Yankee Candle) could not afford a Christmas gift for his mother so he melted two candles together to make her a candle. A friend of the family observed this and was so impressed, bought the candle. With that first sale, Mike purchased enough wax to make 2 candles; one for his mother and one to sell. From those humble beginnings, Yankee Candle was born and has turned into the world’s most popular candle.
The majority of Yankee candles are made by master chandlers (candlemakers) in their advanced manufacturing facilities in Massachusetts. They sell their candles and other products through a growing nationwide base of over 500 company-owned retail stores and have become a true part of American culture and with its continued growth, has developed into an inspirational American success story.
