Dancing through life with laughter.
“This is a happiness piece — movement and dancing connote freedom and joy of life. A lot of little girls go through a ‘high twirl’ stage — when every one of them wants to be a princess or a ballerina — when they seem to float and dance rather than walk. This demonstrative gesture might capture that time. Or, this figure might reflect elements of an adult’s personality — someone we would call a ‘free spirit’. I see the word Spirit as a sense of self and free will, enthusiasm and energy; as having an upbeat frame of mind. Someone who is enjoyable and wonderful to be around due to her attitude toward life. This would be a nice gift for someone entering a new phase of life, such as after retirement or divorce… I hope the piece will universally express joy, freedom and happiness at any age.”
Willow Tree is an intimate, personal line of hand carved sculptures. Each represents a quality or sentiment that helps us feel close to others, heal wounds, or treasure relationships to living things. Expression is revealed through gestures only... a tilt of the head, placement of the hands, a turn of the body. Each piece is cast from the artist's (Susan Lordi) original carving and then painted by hand. Susan says, "I try to keep the interpretation of Willow Tree open. I hope this makes it more personal, and allows the viewer to decide its meaning."
