The Pocketwatch wines pay tribute to Bob Oatley’s great great grandfather James Oatley (1770-1839). This wine continues the Oatley family history of fine craftsmanship. In selecting a number of richly flavoured parcels of grapes from their vineyards in the Central Ranges of NSW and with quality French oak influence, the winemakers have created a sumptuous and velvety red wine with complexity and some spicy characteristics. It tastes of berries, plums, baking spices and a touch of mocha on the lasting firm finish.

Today, Villa Maria employs more than 250 permanent staff and exports wine to over 50 countries worldwide. Fruit is sourced from a number of vineyards in the Awatere and Wairau Valleys of Marlborough. The sites are all different making their own unique impression on the final blend. All of the vineyards are low yielding, shoot and fruit thinned, and leaf plucked to ensure flavour ripeness. Displaying lifted aromas of mature red cherries and berry fruits - hallmarks of Marlborough Pinot Noir, whilst on the palate the wine displays succulent fruit with complex spice, wild herb and savoury elements.
